The major differences between the book and the movie are mostly the character portrayal and where the stuff in the future was. I think that the film makers made these "changes" because they thought it would've been too hard (slackers!. I like the book interpretation better for some reasons and I like the movie for others. I would recommend the book first because it was the original masterpiece.
In the movie there were multiple major differences from the book. One was that the Morlocks and Eloi looked completely different than described in the book. Another one was that he did not go past 800,000 and watch the sun die. One more was the fact that they spoke english. I think the filmmakers made those descisions because, they had a limited budget. I would recomend reading the book first because, the movie sucks.
There were several changes between the book and the movie. All the changes from the book to the movie most likely occurred because the producers were on a budget. Changes like portraying the Eloi as humans instead smaller beings or placing historic artifacts in small underground rooms instead of a large museum supports my statement. Simple changes like the language of the Eloi or the color of the Morlocks does not make as much of a difference but when there are so many of those changes it begins to stray farther from the original story.
I think the most noticable thing that was different from the book and the movie was the Eloi and the Morlocks. First of all the Eloi were regular humans that were blond-- in the movie. Yet in the book they are short purple creatures who do not speak language and are not very smart. Second of all the Morlocks in the movie were giant ugly yeti-esk creatures instead if small little Lemur type creatures as they are portrayed in the book. I think that those changes were made because that since both of them were small little creatures. So they would have to find people who are small enough to fit those roles, and they would need a lot of them. Also they would have to paint them purple and make weird Lemur suits. I like the book better. Not necessarily because I like the book but because the movie was absolute trash, it was one of the worst movies,I have ever watched. I think it was so bad because the editing and special effects were absolute rubbish and the Morlocks and the Eloi were portrayed horribly. Finally I thought it was just a very weird experience all arourd. I think that if you havent seen the movie nor read the book you should see the movie first. I would suggest this because I think you should save the best for last. Also because they are so different that they would seem like different things all together, so actually I would say it doesn't matter but since I have to choose, I would choose the former.
One of the major differences is how the movie made the Eloi humans instead of humanoid creatures. Also the Morlocks were described in the book as having multiple sets of limbs, although in the movie they only had one of each. The Eloi were also said to speak another language in the book, but in the movie they spoke english.
I think the reason the filmmakers made those decisions was to try to create a more appealing movie. If the Eloi were humans then it would be easier to create a romance between the Time Traveler and Weena. Also on a budget its easier to create costumes for a simpler Morlock design than if they had multiple limbs.
I do prefer the book over the movie, as the story in the book was more interesting and left more up the imagination, yet at the same time was more detailed. I would recommend reading the book first, as it is a better portrayal of the story, and its much more interesting to watch the movie after knowing how the story is supposed to go.
Ok. There were so many differences between the book and the movie. The Eloi, first of all, were terrible. They adjusted it just so they could have a stupid romance plot between "George" and Weena. They spoke English pretty well somehow, and the explanation for it was bogus as heck. The setting wasn't accurate at all, and the Morlocks were painful to look at. I give this movie 1.7 stars out of 5. It gets almost a two because I understand that it was the 1960's, and they were surely on a budget. But they made horrible decisions on pretty much everything else. There wasn't a whole lot to do with the book, and a lot of new things were added in. It seems possible that they didn't even read the book, just go a brief summary and went wild. By far, I think that the book was much better. The book dealt much better with character development and relationships between characters. It is extremely well written, and a very unique, engaging story. I would definitely recommend this over the movie adaptation. The book is much more interesting.
To begin with the characters in the "present" were named, which I think has to do mostly with the verbal representation of the text. During his trip to the future he took many stops along the way. It was interesting to see his understanding of the future, and the writers guess at the future. The Eloi we represented as normal humans speaking English, which also i'm sure has to do with the verbal representation, and possibly also has to do with budget. There is the talking rings, which were an efficient way to provide some verbal exposition. His whole trip to the Palace of the Green porcelain was removed, probably because it was long, and would not give much to the story in the movie. The fact that the people were drawn in by a siren similar to the past was interesting, reinforcing the stagnation of society. The fight underground and the destruction of it was the major branch in the story, leading to the ending with him reinvigorating life. This change was more satisfying because the book is thinking about the future and the movie needed to provide an entertaining visual.
I preferred the book because it brings up very interesting concepts about the outcome of current social structures instead of providing something fun to watch. What I would recommend seeing first depends on the person and if they would find the book very boring. In general though I would recommend the book first because it always brings up fun debates on how the movie represented our own characters and things.
1). I was very disappointed in the appearance of the Eloi because after 800,000 years, you think the Eloi would have evolved a little! Just come on!Why. Why. Also, though the Morlocks were "evolved" some, I expected the appearance from the book. 2). Maybe because they couldn't make the costumes for the Eloi or not enough money to or maybe they wanted the Eloi to be the "Good Guys" and romance etc. 3). I definitely liked the book better because there were actual houses and if in the movie it would have had more realism and MORE SENSE I really hope the former producers make a newer, more revised version. 4.) I would recommend the book to everyone who wonders about the future and isn't very specific about what kind of movie they like. But otherwise, I would not recommend this to people.
I think one main difference is that they named all the characters in the movie instead of calling them by their profession. Second the Eloi in the book don't speak English but the ones in the movie did. Third the Eloi in the movie were human which was not what I thought they would look like from the book. There were a lot of differences like cuts of detail and stuff like that.
I think many changes were made due to budget at that they couldn't have done stuff like making the Eloi not look like people. Also I think they named the characters to help for people to understand the movie.
I preferred the book because it allows you to interpret it the way you want like most books that are made into movies.
I would recommend the book because the movie was based off the book so the original is better.
